WINTER MATCH PREVIEW: BLACKDOG @ SWANS
The St. Petersburg Swans will attempt to overtake StarfishFC and move into 2nd place on the Major League Footy Florida Winter League ladder Saturday – but they’ll have to tangle with a tenacious Pasco BlackDog side to do so.
Currently occupying the 3rd position on the ladder, the Swans will overtake the ‘Fish with a win Saturday – and can conceivably all but clinch a spot in the February 25 Championship Final with a blowout victory.
That may be easier said than done, however, as Pasco (0-2) has been competitive in two nail-biters to date, and come in with just an 11-point negative scoring differential.
Their last match saw the ‘Dog drop a 3-point decision to StarfishFC, thus setting plot for this weekend’s action.
Although the ‘Dog appear outmatched on paper going into this one – Jake Keglor’s winter Swans side also includes the club’s young guns in Austen Kugler, Aaron Crittenden, and Jordan Calero, plus club stalwart Ken Scheidt – Pasco will counter with regular-season Senior Coach and #1 Overall Winter Footy Draft Pick Dustin Jones, and Pasco captain Jason Kofender.
Showing just how tumultuous Pasco’s 2016-’17 Winter Footy campaign has done, though – the side can also drop to last on the ladder, should they fall by 70 points or more this weekend.
The Swans, likewise could see their fate resolved either at 3-0 and a minor premiership – or 1-2 and out of the running, depending on their next two matches.
Idle since the Winter season opener, St. Pete has been fortified in their place on the ladder by virtue of a big week one win over Orlando.
A win this weekend moves them into 2nd, helped by StarfishFC’s -15 point deficit…and a resounding win over Pasco could make them unreachable, no matter the result of their February 18 tilt vs. Florida.
