SWANS SWEEP; CLINCH MINOR PREMIERSHIP
Paced by six super goals from top gun Ben McIntosh (Labrador Tigers/AFL Queensland), the St. Petersburg Swans swept the last installment of #footynightinflorida.
In handing out defeats to both the Orlando Kangas and Florida Lions, St. Petersburg clinched the Major League Footy minor premiership, locking up first place with a 9-1 mark (36 points).
Game Two on the evening saw the Bloods thump the Kangas in emphatic fashion, running out 126.96.36.199 – 1.2.8 winners, as McIntosh notched half his night’s tally of 10-point supers.
In a somewhat tighter affair – the margin was only nine at the break, despite two more 10s from McIntosh – St. Pete stifled the Florida Lions in the second half, on the way to the 188.8.131.52 – 4.4.28 final.
With the Swans’ 2018-19 Major League Footy Winter Premiership regular season schedule now complete, St. Petersburg will have four weeks to observe, while the active sides jockey for ladder position en route to the MLF Playoffs in April.
The Lions (5-5, 20 points) currently stand in the #2 seed, with Lakeland (5-3, 20 points) in third place.
With two games remaining, Lakeland would seem well-poised to sew up a playoff berth, while fourth seed St. Petersburg Starfish FC also remains in the hunt.
After a March 9 bye week, Major League Footy action returns at 7 PM, Saturday, March 16, as the Suncoast Suns host Orlando at Largo Sports Complex in Largo, Florida.
