SWANS OVERCOME ERRANT KICKS, WIN BY ATTRITION; 86-74

MAJORLEAGUEFOOTY

The St. Petersburg Swans (2-1) overcame their own shaky kicking to battle back from a big first-period deficit in running out winners over the Florida Redbacks (0-1) Saturday, 13.8.86 -12.2.74.

The result moves the Swans to second place on the Major League Footy Florida Winter League ladder, and clinches a spot in the February 25 Championship Final.

The match was the classic ‘tale of two halves’, with the Redbacks thoroughly dominating St. Petersburg in all facets of the game, further punctuated by the Swans’ often-errant kicking.

After the big-break, the Redbacks’ halftime loss of Brad Freeman – and injuries to Greg Bray and Jordan Calero – allowed St. Pete to eke away at what had been a 25-point deficit.

From there, Dustin Jones, Kyle Roun, Jake Keglor and Pat Bilder took control of the proceedings, en route to a two-goal final margin.

Brad Freeman was named Best on Ground in the final round of the Inaugural Season the Major League Footy Florida Winter League.

The Championship Final will see St. Petersburg host the top-seeded Suncoast Suns (3-0) next Saturday at the Rollbotto Oval at Crescent Lake Common. The match follows the combined club’s weekly training session.

Training begins at 10 AM. The match will begin immediately afterward.

All trainings, practices and competitions are always free, and are open to co-ed players of all ages and skill level.
