The “law firm” of Jones, Makki, Morton and Jones is had their evening in court Saturday at Largo Sports Complex, litigating the 2018-19 Major League Footy Winter Championship Final against the upstart Florida Lions.

While the Lions proved to be brave and worthy adversaries, the Swans’ massive second quarter outburst left little room for cross-examination.

Down 6-3 early after three errant long-range attempts, St. Petersburg quickly got back on track, racing to a 71-27 lead at the big break and never looking back.

With CJ Morton, Dustin Jones and Robbie Scarallo consistently able to navigate the defensive challenges presented by the Lions, Adham Makki and Sydney native Clint Jones were able to dictate action forward, leading to a record five supergoals on the evening.

Although the Lions – coming off a huge 186-72 win over the Lakeland Tigers in the Preliminary Final – matched up well with the Bloods, they were unable to use their speed advantage to their benefit, often ending up trapped on their own end.

The win ends the Swans’ (10-1) winter campaign on a high note, and avenges a loss to Starfish FC in the 2018 Summer Final.

St. Petersburg’s schedule will now pivot to the 2019 MLF Florida Derby vs the Bloods’ cross-state brethren, the Miami Saints.

The Swans will tackle Starfish FC in the first Derby matchup, May 11 at 11 AM.
